This America will appeal to a wide audience because of its short nature and easy-to-read information. I did not enjoy this as much as after reading American Crucible: Race and Nation in the Twentieth Century simply because Lepore simplifies the evolution of Nationalism too much. Jill Lepore does call for a new Americanism to rise up in the place of the racial civic nationalism that pervades the country right now. It's a good place to start in the pursuit of knowledge about nationalism in America.
