Invoking the Blood
by Kalista Neith
This book was good enough.
I had issues with the pacing and characterization. I felt that most characters had no growth at all, and the ones who did it wasn’t really growth, more like a sudden change. Also it seemed to be very black and white when it came to notions of right and wrong, which, while great for some, isn’t really something I prefer.
I will applaud this boom for creating its own universe. It felt very different than the other books I’ve read, I didn’t feel like there was much repeated world building or politics from other books. However, there wasn’t really enough world building for me to tell you why things are the way they are.
Certain plot points, like the crumbling, seemed to just disappear halfway through the book, things built to be big ended up fizzling out… overall this book has certain redeeming qualities, but didn’t seem to be executed in a way that makes it stellar
