First things first, this is the second in a series and I don’t think it should be read on it’s own. If you haven’t read The Boy in the Woods yet do that first, it’s excellent.
At the end of the first book I felt like most things were wrapped up but yet at the same time like there was so much more to learn about Wilde and his fascinating backstory. Hester is back as well and she’s every bit as sharp and witty as she always has been and once again it was awesome to see her playing more of a starring role in one of HC’s books. This felt like a signature book from the author, it was twisty and fast with well developed characters and a really solid mystery that delivered. I’m a huge fan and always will be, he can do no wrong for me but this one was SO good!
