Midnight Sun
by Stephenie Meyer
This book was a long time coming for a Twihard like myself. However, it was way too long. The original Twilight book was 498 pages while this retelling from Edwards p.o.v. was almost 700 pages. To be honest I skim read the last few hundred pages. The story just was not as engaging inside Edward's head. All of the mystery was gone because the reader was privy to everything from the get go. What made the original Twilight engaging was that we were on the journey with Bella learning as she learned about the folklore and what Edward was. It was pretty anticlimactic from his perspective. While I enjoyed the new tidbits we did get, it didn't make up for the glacial pacing and the ridiculous length. Overall I gave this a middle of the road rating purely because of the nostalgia factor and the writing wasn't God awful. I would possibly read New Moon from his p.o.v. only because he left for most of the book, so it would be interesting to see what he was up to.
