The Wickeds
by Gayle Forman
“You know, the portrait gallery is full of paintings of men who’ve killed those who have wronged them,” Elsinora said. “But they’re not called villains. They’re called heroes.”
this is defiantly the most typical fairytale kind of story of the 5 in this little set.
i enjoyed how it was shown that just because you are painted as the villain doesn’t mean you are actually one.
i think the “males are horrible” was very heavy handed with all the abuse and assault and rape - and not that it’s unfitting for fairytales since the original ones are very dark and feature those topics - i just think this had a little too much of those moments for such a short little story.
especially since it was supposed to be mostly about the wicked getting their revenge and not “show me how their husbands/princes/kings/manymale mistreated or hurt them horrible. (again not saying it’s unrealistic but a bit much for 33 pages)
all in all it was nicely done if a bit heavy handed but an interesting spin.
