The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak
Yup, I’m that girl that gave The Book Thief a one star review. Sorry!!
I’ll start by saying I typically do not enjoy reading stories about the holocaust, nazis, Germany, etc. I don’t know why, it just doesn’t interest me. I’ve tried, I promise! I am so down for reading about other historical themes and countries, but this genre just doesn’t hold my attention or interest me.
That being said, I decided to give this book a try because of all the five star reviews. My friend even said she gave copies of this book to her friends and family as Christmas gifts. It must be good, right?!? I wanted to like it, I really did! But alas, different strokes for different folks.
I read all 500+ pages and it felt like a bunch of short stories that came and went and then death would speak up and then we’d go back to more short stories. Sorry guys, I gave it a solid try. Maybe it’s me and not the book??
