This book starts off interestingly with the main character, Tempest, bumping into the beginning of the end of her years long marriage to her husband Asher. Usually romance books don’t start off like this, at least not most of the ones I’ve read before, so I was intrigued. Tempest is an interesting character because I think she embodies the more irrational impulses and insecurities that a lot of people may have after ending such a long term relationship in such a bad way. Cage also caught my interest because with him we explore the grief and rebuilding that comes with ending an athletic career after an injury. Both of them have lost something that is very important to them and have to learn to readjust their lives to accommodate the huge change and we get to see the difficulties that come with that. Despite their losses being different, I think that they are good for each other because they both understand what it’s like to have to uproot everything you’ve ever known to start anew as well as the fear that comes with that. Their romance was interesting to observe because they grow together within the relationship and openly communicate their concerns, even if it takes Tempest a bit more time to open up with Cage. Overall, a short and endearing couple is what we get with this novel that explores how hindsight can be 20/20.
