CW: sexual assault, victim blaming.


This is an extremely dark & brutal book that tackles rape culture.

I don’t know if I’d put this in the contemporary category, since it reads more like a thriller.

The book had a slow start & I didn’t really understand what was going on in the story until about 1/3 of the way in.

The character Alex was a well-developed, antihero. Unfortunately for me the other characters fell flat & were underwhelming.

There was a ton of character development that has been extremely overdone in YA - the main hated girl is a cheerleader, the 2 guy best friends dating the 2 girl best friends.

There was also a lot of slut-shaming & victim blaming & for a story about such an important topic, I did not enjoy that aspect of the story.

While I didn’t hate the book, I felt it wasn’t anything that I haven’t read before & it could blend in with a lot of other stories with the same themes.
