purplepenning 's review for:
Gregor the Overlander
by Suzanne Collins
A middle grade questing adventure that I put off reading for years because I'm not overly fond of giant talking roaches, bats, and rats, or down-the-rabbit-hole stories in general. But I'm either slowly changing those opinions or this was just really that good. I think maybe it was that good.
Gregor is a great main character — quiet, conscientious, a little mature for an eleven-year-old, but that's to be expected given his family situation. And the world building and supporting cast of characters is great too.
Content notes: parent disappearance, battle violence, death, stiching up wounds
