The first chapter of Something in the Water is excellent. It immediately hooks you into the story and it's probably one of the strongest openings I've read.

Unfortunately, this is where my positives stopped. I thought this was going to be more of a tropical thriller (I love a remote island thriller), but it took 100 pages for the characters to get to Bora Bora and then they only spent another 100 pages actually on the island. I read the mass market version so it was over 400 pages of waiting for something to happen.

While the story did pick up after they found the bag, Erin as a character made the wildest decisions that it was hard to reaply root for her. There was also too much about her documentary that didn't end up amounting to much in the end.

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with this one.
