I read this the first time (when it was My Friend the Vampire) in the late 80s. I've revisited it a few times over the years, and it is never not a delight. My library had the newly translated version, so I've spent the last few nights reading it to my 13y/o before bed. So thrilled they loved it, too, and we're both looking forward to reading the rest. And hoping the US finally gets the rest of the series that was never released on this side of the Atlantic (as well as the rest of the books that were never translated into English).
