Female Furies
by Cecil Castellucci
This was alright.
I guess people saying this is a spiritual successor to Mister Miracle? It basically is a comic version of the #METOO movement. So this might turn people off or on. For me, I was inbetween. I'm 100% behind the movement of #MeToo. I know too many people who suffered and kept things a secret in fear of judgement or repercussions. So I was like "Oh a comic showing off things like that and talking about it might be good" but this comic came off...half baked?
The idea of the Furies here training and becoming ultimate warriors is cool. I even like the idea they are mostly evil and so the worst things they do the more chance of becoming promoted. However, the rest of the story heavily focuses on things like Rape, being used, blackmailing, and more. Now, I think these subjects are important, but they feel in a overabundance here. Like they pile on so much and so quick it feels it is trying TOO hard to tell the message instead of letting the story flow with it. I also thought the art was weird as sometimes it worked well to display characters and other times it was so unfitting to the situation or hard to tell what was happening.
Overall, this is a book about sisters wanting to overturn the people who make them suffer. The idea is great, but the execution is lacking. A 2.5 out of 5.
