Overall, I enjoyed this book and the witty banter. I laughed out loud multiple times. I really enjoyed the variety of fantasy elements compared to other newer fantasy books. I’ve never read about a manticore in a novel before, so that was exciting! I also really enjoyed Rae and seeing her journey.
Here’s where I struggled a little. I think the author is a FANTASTIC writer in terms of ability to tell a story and get a reader hooked. Where I see potential is in the detail itself. There’s world building and world building and world building. I found myself lost multiple times and unsure what I missed to make certain plot lines happen. There was just so much going on.
That being said, I recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy! I will likely pick up the sequel because I’m curious where it’ll go and I see the potential in this series!
