Old Enough
by Haley Jakobson
One of my anticipated reads for 2023, Old Enough lived up to the hype. I was nervous that Jakobson's whiteness meant she was going to deliver non-nuanced, very ciswhite story about a type of queerness that I don't experience as a trans POC, but I absolutely loved this book and Jakobson's care with both Sav's story and the story of those around her. I did not know a ton about this book, just that it was very bisexual, and so the fact that it is also about a rape survivor surprised me, but, as I already said, Jakobson wrote this story with such care that I learned a lot by the time I closed the book. This book is fun and funny and witty throughout, without taking away from the seriousness of some of the subject matter. The queerness and the incredibly strong friendships, specifically femme ones, were beautiful and I'm jealous of what Candace, Vera, and Sav have. I see Jakobson in a few days for a book event and I couldn't be more excited now!
