The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards
3.0

I have such a love/hate relationship with this book I don't know how to review it. When I started reading it, I hated everything. The writing felt too amateurish, the worldbuilding didn't make any sense, and the characters were unlikeable at best and cringeworthy at worst. The fact that (of all the overused tropes) it is based on tarot cards didn't help at all (the only way worse than this would be if it was based on zodiac signs... No, scratch that, MBTI types! Eww, now I grossed myself out).

I kept pushing through though. My friend loves the series and I wanted to at least give it a try. And something changed. I'm not sure what. The plot was still overcomplicated and the worldbuilding messy, but I got hooked. By plot, at first, which is unusual for me. Then the characters started growing on me. At a half-point, I didn't want to put the book down. And now I can't wait to put my kids to sleep so I can start with the second book.

How the hell has this happened??

I can't give it more than three stars. It had many flaws I can't discard. But if I ever think about bumping it up a star, it would be because of Lord Tower. He is freaking hot.
