I've never been a big Chaol fan... but... I am now! Maas' writing and the way she makes you feel certain things for characters is astonishing. I loved how Chaol struggled with himself about the past. It felt real. We've all made choices in life that have caused a personal struggle, or I'm assuming most of us! Mass did an excellent job on the subject of this particular disability.
