» QUICK OVERVIEW «

Stars: ★★★☆☆
Plot: ★★☆☆☆
Readability: ★★☆☆☆
Characters: ★★★☆☆
Writing: ★★★★★

» PLOT «

Born to a nymph and the sun god, Circe is nothing special. The plainest and least extraordinary of her siblings, Circe soon discovers her powers as a witch. And after she is exiled by Zeus, her life is transformed and she begins to embrace herself.

This book tells the story of Circe's life. Therefore, it is more of a biography rather than a traditional story. As a result, instead of working towards one climax or resolution, we were constantly hopping form one event to another. It made me tired and exhausted of her story.

Also, why did the main characters of both The Song of Achilles and Circe
admit to their crimes? Both admitted to their crimes and both got punished and
everything in their books occurred because of it.

» READABILITY «

I personally had a harder time enjoying reading this book, but it was medium paced overall.

» CHARACTERS «

The characters were okay, every single one of them were headstrong and determined. And depending on whether you enjoy that or not, you may also like the characters. Personally none of them were all that likeable (except for Telemachus).

» WRITING «

Madeline Miller's writing is absolutely beautiful, however even that does not save this lackluster story.

» OVERALL «

The writing is similar to The Song of Achilles, but it just doesn't hit the same.
