The Jock and the Fat Chick
by Nicole Winters
I was surprised that this book was in the POV of Kevin. I'd expected it to be from Claire but I actually liked the book a lot this way. Kevin and Claire are cuties and they made me want to learn cooking even more. I love Buddy too! I think this was a really cute read and I wish it had been longer but the ending works for me too.
Kevin's mother and Claire's parents are also golden.
Also, Claire being a plus-sized girl means so much to me. I've been struggling with weight and insecurities for a long time but while reading this (for a boy's POV) Claire never was seen as less than beautiful through Kevin's eyes. It's because of his friends and the title that we know Claire is 'fat'. In this society it can be really hard to be not as thin as the models on the covers of magazines. But books like this give me hope and more self-confidence. Funny how that works.
