Sorcery of Thorns
by Margaret Rogerson
The bones of the plot are reminiscent of Howl's Moving Castle: charismatic but feared sorcerer with a demon, brave girl having to leave her home in his company, early industrial revolution fantasy.
But the rest of the fun of this book is all its own: magic books, warrior librarians, creepy necromancy passed down for generations.
