jsant 's review for:
When We Left Cuba
by Chanel Cleeton
One of the things I love about historical fiction is that it can teach you about a time period or historical events that you'd only read a few paragraph about previously. This book did that for me.
The book centers around the early 1960s in Florida and Cuba - the rise in power of Fidel Castro, the Bay of Pigs, and the assassination of JFK.
I'm also a sucker for a strong female lead who bucks societal norms, paves her own path, but still gets to have some romance too. I loved the lead character, Beatrice.
