Hold Me by Courtney Milan

The Good
Maria is awesome! She loves her femininity while also loving her scientific and writing side. Jay's storyline with his family was done wonderfully. They each carried so much guilt and grief and when they finally communicated it was an amazing scene.
Jay and Maria's relationship is rough but I loved the reveal. I liked that everything wasn't instantly fixed and they had internal conflicts of merging their real life interactions and the online ones.

The Bad
Jay is sexist. His claims that it was only Maria when he views everything stereotypically feminine about her as negative is in fact misogynistic. I hated that this was the introduction of the male lead we get. I know I'm supposed to feel this enemies to lovers thing but the first 40% it's them actively disliking each other because Jay is continuously mean and pretentious and Maria stands up for herself. There's probably a fair amount of readers who did not finish the book because of this. I almost did. Jay wouldn't have ever stopped being sexist until he suddenly met this one rare smart and pretty woman. Like yuck. Once they finally met I didn't feel any chemistry between them. The transition from them hating to each other to suddenly dating didn't work for me. I wasn't invested in them together at all so the last 30% of the book was meh for me.

The Rating
I give this book a 2/5
