American Street

This is a moving story of family, culture, and what people will do to and for one another. It's a compelling mystery--I meant to just skim this enough to write a booktalk about it (it's one of the assigned summer reading books) but I got sucked in and had to read it myself. The Haitian vudou elements are interesting and add a bit of fantastic mystery--in terms of what maybe literally happens or doesn't happen?
Definitely recommended for readers looking for a diverse contemporary book with a bit of unique mystery/thriller flavor.
