Okay... okay... okay.... I can see why some people were disappointed. But I was not. I feel like there were so many important themes public perception of women, beauty & body standards, misogyny, mean girls, childhood trauma, parental relationships, personal growth, friendship, self-discovery and self-love, daddy issues, all that good stuff.

The serial killing foodie influencer was a hot mess. She hated women. She thought she was better than everyone. She literally told her little sister that it was her own fault she was sexually assaulted and said men wouldn't do those types of things if women made themselves available and didn't play games. Despite this chick being funny and over the top, I wanted to punch her in the face. She is psycho.

With that said our FMC Nika went through it. This reminded me of other stories where reporters go down rabbit holes chasing a story until it ruins their lives.

Our girl starts acting reckless. At the direction of her new serial killer bestie, she starts moving differently. Everything is affected. From her sex life, to how she moves with her friends, and co-workers, to the way she dresses, thinks, and even her vacation is all influenced or at the request of the crazy chick.

One thing that really stuck out was the obsession with weight and beauty standards. As a reporter it was important for our girl to try and fit into the boy's club. So in the beginning of the book, she doesn't embrace her femineity and walks a fine line when dealing with sources out of fear she would be accused of sleeping her way to the top or to get leads.

As the story goes on she starts to embrace her femineity, and this includes putting on weight. What's crazy is these mfers say something!
Her co-workers, her bestie, her boyfriend. Everyone is convinced there must be something mentally or emotionally wrong because she's packing on the pounds. But get this, the weight gain in question is less than 17lbs!

In a scene with her bestie, it's stated she's 5'5 and weights 56kg. That's 123lbs! That's after her weight gain. I could crush this chick with my thigh.  Later in the book the bestie who suggested she go on a diet and start working out was like, oh hey I looked it up and for your height it's suggested your standard weight should be 60kg (132lbs).

Anyways, I think the reason people are disappointed is because they wanted a bigger badder showdown with the serial killer girlie. The author followed all realistic standards when dealing with an inmate. So, while YES it would have been amazing if she was able to have additional access for a better closure or confrontation, it wouldn't have been believable.

Overall, I liked the book. I would suggest it. But again, it was long. However, we get more stories than just the FMC. Her bestie, boyfriend, and news source all peeked my interest and I was rooting for them.. some of them as the story progressed.
