Gideon the Ninth
by Tamsyn Muir
Considering how hyped this book has been, even before its release, I was very skeptical about it. But that cover is beautiful! My friend read this before me and kept telling me that she didn’t think I was going to like it. And she was right.
However, there were things in this book that I did enjoy. I loved the humor in the book and loved Harrow and Gideon together! Their banter was so fun to read.
The book had zero world-building or a magic system. Was there power and magic? Yes, yes, there was. But it wasn’t a logical or a strong system. They just happened to be necromancers, but as a reader, I felt that I was just watching something unfold without actually being brought into the world. The world-building was nonexistent.
The writing style itself I found refreshing and original. It had a lot of humor in it. But the plot and world-building fell flat for me. For me, this book is very MEH.
