Reread 2023: Not as fun of a book the second time around - I had a lot of trouble surprisingly getting through this story. Less intriguing than Percy Jackson and the quirky moments in the story just didn't hit as well.
Original review 2013: It's pretty hard for me to not just flat out compare this book to Percy Jackson, so I'll do my best.
The story was incredible and I'm so impressed with the way Riordan incorporates so much history into the story in such a fun way. It really makes me want to go learn more about Ancient Egypt on my own and I'm sure it does the same for young readers. A book that gets kids excited about learning? Awesome!
The reason I only gave 4 stars is because I didn't feel that there was enough of a difference in the personalities of Carter and Sadie to make them unique characters. They had similar jokes, mannerisms, etc. I wouldn't pay attention to the chapter titles so sometimes I wouldn't know which character was the POV.
Other than that, awesome! Excited for book 2!
