Recently there seems to be a trend within SFF for light hearted, fun or cosy stories - undoubtedly a reaction to the pain and stress of the pandemic and other world events. A Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is very much part of this trend, in fact it is one of the cosiest fantasy novels I have ever read. If you want to read a book which will put a smile on your face, choose this one.  There is some romance in the book, but the biggest theme is found family.

One thing I have observed in the few cosy fantasy books I have read is that they all feel the need at some point to have a darker or more upsetting twist or turn, temporarily breaking the cosiness. I wish this book had avoided that route as frankly it felt unnecessary to the story. Still, that is one small part of an otherwise highly enjoyable book. The ending of the book felt perfect.

The audiobook narration is also great, I really liked the narrator. For large parts of the book I read a physical copy and listened to the audiobook simultaneously, and I found that significantly added to the cosy feeling of reading the book.
