These Violent Delights
by Chloe Gong
Torn between a 2.5 and a 3.
This book had so much potential. Really like the start of the book. The mystery behind what was killing the gangs and the supernatural aspects of this disease.
But then it got to the middle of the book and everything felts so rush and force for shock value.
Things I liked.
1. All the side characters. I felt that their stories were more interesting that the two leads.
2. The mystery of what was happening in the city.
3. The setting of the book.
That pretty much sums up what I loved from the book. After that. I felt that this book could have been a really good stand-alone. At the beginning I did enjoyed the character of Juliette but as the book progress I felt that her character went backwards instead of evolving more. She had so much resources to her deposal people she could trust and she just did not seem to use them when she need them. Also wish we had more of an insight of the character of Roma. His character was over looked in some part and it makes me think that the author just hold back at his thought for further exploring for book 2 and 3.
The ending of the book felt too force for time. We have this slow development at the beginning and the ending just felt rush. I sort of felt robed of a good book in the later half of the book.
