The Confessions of Frannie Langton is a rich, slowly unfolding read. Themes of race and slavery in the 19th Century, combined with the current of tension and mystery running throughout sustained my interest, though I didn't find the book having as much of an emotional impact as I hoped it would. A few times I found myself struggling to follow the motivations and goals of certain characters' and wishing for the pace to pick up a teeny bit.
