The Wild Truth: A Memoir
by Carine McCandless
This is an important illustration of how complicated the experience of abuse is, and why people give so many chances to those that hurt them so terribly. It also sheds much needed light on the why of Chris McCandless's journey, where the book and movie of Into the Wild can't help but leave you with a sense that he was a bit of an entitled and immature rich kid who stormed off to pursue some romantic illusion in a fatal temper tantrum.
