I tried very hard to get through this book. I just couldn't get in to at at all, but that's my fault for picking up a book that isn't my type of genre. And because it wasn't my genre, I haven't given it a rating. Granted, there wasn't that much romance, (which I don't like because I'm romantically detached) and that I didn't mind, but it was just so boring! And in parts it was quite unrealistic and predictable. For example, *SPOILERS* a deer was in the canal drowning, unfortunately, which was upsetting, poor thing. But when the guys couldn't rescue it, they didn't speak to one another for the entire night. Come on! I know certain traumatic things can detach you from communication for a while but this was a little silly. Another thing I didn't like was a few pages in and they came across people that one of the men travelling with Perdu knew. The younger woman was topless due to a health condition. In front of her parents. HER PARENTS!! She was naked from neck to waist in front of her PARENTS!! Why?! Why would you do that, that's just wrong!! I'd be embarrassed being in a swimsuit in front of my dad, never mind being naked! *shudders*
I don't like giving up on reads. I do need to finish books whether they're brilliant or crap, but I honestly couldn't wait to finish this one. Not for me at all. I'll stick with witches, magic, elves, orcs, peculiar children, hauntings, thrillers and ghosts like I usually do.
