This book was originally published in 1994 so there are some great 90's references. It was a little cheesy and predictable. Most of the nightmares were childish and weird, not scary. I'm sure if I read this in 1994 I would have loved it. As an adult (who loves YA) in 2016, this was a little childish and more middle grade than YA.
