Catering to Nobody
by Diane Mott Davidson
CW: suicide, domestic abuse, sexual assault including that of a minor
Man oh man, the men in this book…..whew. The “likable” male characters include:
- detective Tom Schultz, who makes fun of Goldy at every turn for trying to investigate a case that is directly impacting her livelihood. A case that he is not doing shittttt to investigate. Also he wants to date Goldy while she is a suspect. And every time she finds something out about the case, he takes credit for it. And he’s the main love interest. lmao
- this guy named Pomeroy, who’s like hot and brooding or something but then we find out that he’s brooding because HIS WIFE HAD AN ABORTION WITHOUT HIS PERMISSION . Seriously. Genuinely.
Then of course there are the unlikable male characters: an actual wife-beater and an extremely predatory and abusive old man. And both of these dudes are gynecologists.
Much to unpack here…
