Dust Storm by Maggie Gates
5.0

I seriously love this book so much and cannot stop thinking about it. I haven't read a Maggie Gates book prior to this, but I will be reading them all now. Cassandra is banished to the small Texas town, where she is in now in charge of PR and a project for Christian's cattle ranch. She is a rich city girl and as she says, the ranch and small city living is her personal idea of hell. Sparks fly between Cassandra and Christian and they keep trying to avoid each other until they can't anymore. I loved that Cass was unapologetically herself, even though others thought she was brash and sort of mean. She was herself, and I truly loved that. She taught Christian's girls to be themselves and not take any crap from anyone. I particularly loved the principal's office scene with Bree and Cassandra! Cass eventually softens, both for Christian and his girls, and she realizes that maybe there's more to life than PR in New York. I loved that the author gave Christian a "dad bod" and he wasn't some cowboy with six pack abs. No, he was soft around the belly and had a man bun (and his reason why he has long hair will make you swoon) and I loved his characterization. He is the ideal book boyfriend. I also loved that Cass was up front about not wanting kids and not being maternal and how she only liked his kids and not just any, and that the author didn't give her some surprise pregnancy at the end. It was so perfect. I also cannot wait for Ray's story, which is next. I'm so intrigued after what happened to him and how it will all play out. I just know it will be so good since Maggie Gates is the one writing it.
