The following notes below are 5 star moments in The Kraken's Sacrifice, the number of great smart ass comments made by Catalina that I loved and Thane served it back just as good saved this book but overall I was sadly disappointed. It fell like the exact same book as The Dragons Bride, only underwater. There also seemed to be far more to unpack and not enough pages to do it. Their storyline would have made a great novel - leading up to the bargain that was made and then onwards.
“No.” The word comes out too sharp, but she’s set me back again, and I don’t know how to deal with this. “Do not, under any circumstances, call me that.”
She parts her lips, but Azazel cuts in. “That was a hard boundary, Catalina. Respect it.”
And the below is why I will always adore Katee Robert's books; because they approach subjects in the most respectful and beautiful way, regardless of how I feel about The Kraken's Sacrifice overall this end was perfect is every way.
“Generational trauma does not make you more or less worthy of being a parent.”
He tightens his grip slightly. “But if you don’t want children, no one is going to make you have a baby.”
Her expression softens a little. “Not likely, but still something to watch for. Everything went smoothly.” She hesitates but finally shakes her head. “Look, people react to this sort of thing differently. Some cry. Some don’t. Sometimes there’s guilt or shame or whatever the fuck. Sometimes there’s just relief.” She must see my confusion because she points a sharp black fingernail at me. “My point is that no matter how she reacts, it’s the right way for her, and your only job is to be there and be supportive.”
