I don't get the hype surrounding this book! I understand it covers very intense topics - such as suicide, depression, homelessness, death, etc. - but I don't think that should give a book an automatic 5 stars. The writing style is not for me, so many useless, drawn out details that make the very short chapters feel like hundreds of pages long. I also didn't find many of the characters believable or real enough. No one would ever act that strange, difficult or relaxed in a real life hostage situation or police questioning. It really took me out of the story because the characters were acting so absurd. I know its fiction, but the world they are in is very much based on real life.
I give this book 3 stars, because some of the character development was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed Zara and her relationship with her therapist. I do like the interconnectedness of all the characters. I just wish the writing style would have been more succinct.
