This is an interesting reflection of what it might be like for astronauts able to travel long distances to visit new worlds, but at a cost of spending decades away from Earth. There are some moments in it that really make you think.

Ultimately though, the novella didn't work for me. I was more than half way through it before I felt that it had developed any real sense of plot, and I'm not sure it ever really had very much characterisation. The first half of the novella felt more like reading a newspaper article with someone describing events that happened to them than reading an actual story. This style may appeal to some readers, but it didn't to me. I also found the ending a bit irritating, which is probably the main reason I didn't give the book 3 stars.

The book is certainly well researched, insightful and thought provoking, but it is also for me unsatisfying and at times boring. It does have the benefit of being very short, otherwise I may not have bothered to finish it.
