This was so close to a 4 star with CAWPILE, so I guess it’s more like a 3.5?

This wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be, to be honest! I was expected for Lazlo’s character to be completely irredeemable for me after the second half of Strange the Dreamer, and while I still don’t feel as much love for him as I did when we first met him, his character didn’t completely explode at least. I would still have much preferred for the end of the first book to be a bit different, but I’m not mad about where the sequel went!

I LOVE that Muse of Nightmares turned this world into a portal fantasy!! If you know me at all, you’ll know that portal fantasy is 100% my shit! Imagine my scream of delight when I realized the direction it was going! Honestly that’s probably the reason my rating got bumped up half a star lol. The world is absolutely the best part of this series, it’s so beautifully written and I really hope Laini Taylor does end up writing more in it! I would love to see what happened to the main characters after the end of this book, but I would also love just random stories about completely unrelated characters from different worlds. There’s so much she could do here and I can’t wait to see where she goes with it!
