5 Things About Book of a Thousand Days

1) THE NARRATIVE STYLE. Like. CAN I JUST FLAIL ABOUT THIS FOR A MINUTE PLEASE? Shannon Hale is a master. When I look at this book from a distance, the plot moves rather slowly. Yet somehow, this book pulled me from the reading slump I'd been in since January. I devoured it in two sittings, faster than I've read a book in too long. It's such a spell binding book, told in such a unique and captivating way. You don't even notice the slow plot. You're just lost in the beauty of the storytelling.

2) DASHTI. She is just the sweetest girl. She's so pure and innocent and such a refreshing character to grace the YA Fantasy world. She was so matter of fact about everything, and so stinkin' brave.

3) THE WORLD. Hale does such a fabulous job of crafting a vivid world. The picture was painted so clearly for me. Her world building is always so clear, and isn't an info-dump in the slightest. I love how the world impacts the characters, too. They are shaped by their land and where they're from. They have clear memories of childhood and life and their corners of the world that make them into living and breathing people.

4) THE MAGIC. This kind of ties in with the world, but it deserves its own point. The way the magic is written is so unique and beautiful. I love the idea of magic in music, and this was so well done.

5) THE END. No spoilers, but DANG. Just ... wow. Normally a book like this would turn me away (given that Dashti has to lie about her identity several times and I usually can't stand that). But I couldn't put it down. I was completely captivated and utterly spellbound.

I would definitely recommend it! Nothing inappropriate to speak of, too, which is again soooo refreshing to read. Go read it now!
