Butterface
by Avery Flynn
This story was my first contemporary in quite a while. Overall I liked it. Stars got knocked for me for lack of build up of tension (first few chapters were good, then fizzled) and lack of character depth, mainly for the hero. I would have liked to have spent more time in the hero’s head. The author also took development opportunities and completely missed them by saying vague statements like “they shared stories all night of their childhood”.
I did love their families. I loved the sex.
I thought the beat down on the heroines looks were a little overplayed (I get it, Butterface, but I felt like it was still high school). I would have liked to have seen the heroine get some confidence. I also thought the plot was pretty predictable, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Just with all the other things it made the book only 3 stars for me.
