The poetry collection has an extremely high focus on American racism - specifically referencing political figures in regards to American racism. Which as a not-American, was sometimes confusing to me. However, what it did accomplish was make me eager to learn more.
I found the poetry to not be quite what I personally look for in poetry - being much more direct, with little emphasis on word play. But all the same it was enjoyable and highly emotional - something I appreciate in poetry.
