I really liked the way the story was set up, you jump right into it, slowly learn more about the past through Kenna's letters and switch POVs every few chapter. Also I loved the topic and had hope it would focus on the child and parent relationship more but this is where I was let down: We mainly follow a normal love story between Legder and Kenna and I don't know why I was just not interested in them at all. Their romance just seemed so unnecessary to me like: oh let's give the white lead characters a spicy love story so everyone will be happy! No.
I want to mention that the side characters are diverse though since the author mentioned it in a scene where Kenna was suprised how many different ethnicities work at the bar. I get the idea to write that but as the reader it felt uncomfortable to read. Well, my main critisism is that I missed seeing the mother and daughter content I hoped to see. Still loved the ending! Overall a fine story that wasn't executed the way I expected it to be with a boring love interest but really cool side characters.
