Booooooo. This was overwrought. I was very intrigued the first half and my enthusiasm wore off steadily until the weak conclusion. I thought this was a little boring. I wish there was more to say about it. It felt like an amalgam of a lot of stories and it didn't bring anything new. I didn't dislike the writing, I would read this author again but I found the story and characters too crafted to where the ending didn't satisfy me. We went a lot of directions here: a mystery of someone dying, a weird creepy tech company, growing up in a cult, the resurfacing of a successful person linked to her past, a haunted-ish house, the main character's fear of commitment. Pick a lane. Develop any one of those ideas rather than scattershotting every idea at once. Horror trope bingo.
