The Hate U Give
by Angie Thomas
This was powerful. I'm certainly not hip or on fleek or whatever lingo teens use and I grew up pretty sheltered outside a small northern Michigan community, but this felt authentic in the way the teens and the projects they lived in were represented. All the characters were rich and well developed. This is not a happily ever after, tie it in a bow ending, and I appreciate it that much more. This should be required reading.
