The Forever Song
by Julie Kagawa
LOTS OF SPOILERS! BEWARE! I put off reading this because I was disappointed with book two in the series. I LOVED book one. It was unique and made me want to read the backstory about this world Kagawa created. I liked Allie and Kanan. But book two was disappointing as they just walked round everywhere and had way too much page time for Jackal, who I wasn't a huge fan of. Book three was more walking and predictable moments--come on! I knew it was Zeke in Old Chicago the second they headed there! I knew Kanan was going to die so I was kinda hoping he wouldn't. I honestly wanted Zeke to die. I liked him as a human and his struggles as a vampire was well written as well, but I felt that he kept Allie human...because he was human. I didn't like them riding off into the vampire sunset together.
I'm not a big fan of Jackal. However, besides his annoying habit of saying the word sister every time he opened his mouth, I didn't mind him so much in this book. I may be the only person in the world who wanted this but...I liked the idea of Zeke dying and Allie getting together with Jackal. I know they are "brother and sister" but not really if you think about it. And she makes him a better person, and character.
All in all, I liked The Immortal Rules but was disappointed from there on. There were many missed opportunities in the second two books. The one thing Kagawa does SO well is her descriptions of action scenes. Hats off to her as writer! She kept me wanting to read and didn't loose my interest in the action and fighting scenes.
