Giving House on the Cerulean Sea vibes with cute mischievous kids and soul-lost adults who have all found home in one another. 

 

An adult novel that reads young and vulnerable, set in a modern Western multiethnic English landscape sparkling with secret magic, with a main character who is quite well adjusted, but carries the open hurts of a neglected childhood. Written in an easy reading style that focuses on telling its love story more than the words used to tell it, the story is about a predictable romance, but it’s fun to watch the attraction ignite, and see all the love grow among this cast of diverse characters. 

 

A bright and warm story, told in overly cussy language (and a bit of cringy-steam in one scene) and the straightforward dialogue of a generation unhindered by social niceties. Or too many poetic adjectives. 

 

A good bit of fun with magic-wielding children, a haters-to-lovers romance, some found family, and a predictable outcome—but overall good fun.
