Mr Norris Changes Trains by Christopher Isherwood
3.5
adventurous funny lighthearted mysterious reflective tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This was my first encounter with Isherwood and it definitely turned out to be a good one. He paints a vibrant picture of Berlin in the 1930s, just prior to the rise of fascism.

His characterisation of each person the main character meets is some of the best I have read in a while. Mr Norris was particularly interesting, in equal parts fabulously eccentric, likable, untrustworthy and suspicious.

Loved it!!
