That Swoony Feeling
by Meghan Quinn
Oh my goodness, where to even start with Brig! He’s adorable, the kind of guy you think you’d want. But man, he is so clueless! Which made poor Ruth’s situation so frustrating! And that made it so frustrating for me because I found myself realizing just how much I am like Ruth. Shy, also figuring that no one likes me because they don’t show it or put me firmly in the friend zone, so it seems, at least as far as I can tell. Also I’m like her because when I even give a slight hint or clue that I might be interested, if I don’t get any type of confirmation that person gets it and agrees, or if they do anything that could be construed as being repulsed or really not liking me, then I won’t even try or I’ll go away and avoid them for fear of humiliation.
It was so much fun though to see Ruth try to come out of her shell and make Brig see how she felt. I just wish I had the guts to do it myself with someone I’m currently interested in but feel like I’ve been friend zoned by. In fact, it almost feels as if this was the book I needed to read right now for my own situation! Except, I don’t think my guy is actually into me. Because Brig really did like Ruth, he just thought that maybe his penpal was really who he was into. But Ruth and the penpal? Same person. And she gives him so many clues! The Whoopie pies and almost exact quotes from conversations they’ve had.
There’s a whole sequence of people calling Brig a moron, including his own dad, and man was I jumping on the bandwagon with that. But I also did want a guy like him too. Someone to make me go running with them. Someone to help me out with things even when I’m stubborn and just plan to do them myself.
Speaking of Brig’s dad, he has one of the best lines in this book, about not staring at breasts that don’t belong to us. LOL! And of course there was all the usual funny group text messages between all the Knightly siblings. I just loved getting to see how all of the rest of them were doing, and did especially enjoy Rylee and Beck, especially the scene where Beck was supposed to be helping Rylee with research for her romance novels. That also had me rolling with laughter in bed as I read it. It makes me think about going back and reading their book, Two Wedding Crashers.
As with the last book in this series, That Secret Crush, the baked beans sandwich was mentioned and I really, really, really want to try one now. I know I can’t make it myself, because I won’t be able to recreate it correctly I’m sure. But now I want to find a restaurant that makes them so I can try it.
A wonderful way to take care of the last Knightly brother suffering from the love curse, to break the curse, to get all the HEAs we wanted and they deserved.
