4.5 stars!!!
Looooove me some CH!! Great read.
“People sometimes still drown in the shallow end.”
It has been a while since I’ve picked up a Hoover book. This book reminded me why I love her writing so much.
From the very beginning, I was caught up in the story. I had a hard time putting it down and finished it in one day. Hoover has this brilliant way to write characters. You immediately fall in love with them and root for them. This book was no exception. This was a beautiful and emotional journey for them and me. There are a lot of aspects to this book that are predictable but I was shocked by the twist in the end. You know that something is up but no idea what is.
I loved the setting in this book. I should have waited for the summer to read this because now I just want to be on the beach. I want to rent a house on the beach with an outside shower. haha.
Beyah was a character that will stick with me for a while. It’s so heartbreaking what she went through and how she had to survive alone. It’s also inspiring because she did what she had to do to make it out of the circumstances she was in. I love that Hoover took a book and centered it around kids that slip through the cracks.
Overall, I was swept away with this book. If you are looking for a beautifully written, emotional, and intense book, pick this one up. She does not disappoint and it’s why she has been one of my favorite authors. I cannot wait to dive into more of her books!!
