another kasie west book, another three stars.

i’m beginning to find that kasie west write decent romances. not really the best but also not the worst. they’re just *shrug* okay.

i’m also starting to notice a pattern in each of her stories. either her characters have some sort of sad backstory (this one being that the girl’s father left her and she’s poor as frick). they always have some sort of family problems like that. and (most of the time) they at first don’t like the guy but then end up with them.

i mean, come on. Maybe This Time? main character hates the guy because he’s a spoiled rich boy. Fill-In Boyfriend? doesn’t hate the dude but also doesn’t like it. P.S I Like You? she hates the guy. this one? omg, PLOT TWIST, she hates the guy.

it’s very repetitive, so i hope that in future books by this author she won’t have the same tropes and stuff.

anyway, i’m getting off topic. back to TDBU.

so. i actually quite liked the main character, despite the fact i can’t quite remember her name. she was witty and some-what funny, which i enjoyed. she wasn’t like kasie west’s other main characters, so there’s that. i liked how she sealed with her problems and how she acted towards people. she was a genuinely decent person, which was good.

xander, on the other hand (i can actually remember his name haha), was not my favorite. i don’t even know how main character, which i’m going to shorten to mc, fell for him. Xander was weird and selfish, and it’s actually so unsanitary that he took a sip of her hot chocolate or whatever drink she had before she would drink it. i don’t know if west thought that would be romantic, but it’s not. it’s the way to spread corona. xander was also trying to “stick it to his dad”, but even after the 271 pages, i still don’t understand why. he makes it seem like his father was horrible, but i couldn’t find the horribleness that xander was talking about.

also the doll store just freaked me out. the image i made in my head of that store literally comes straight out of an Annabelle movie. nope nope nope.

there were also just a lot of loose end that needed to be made neat. in other words, way to many random subplots. what happened with this matthew guy? who the heck was he? what about the career days? those just disappeared. and mc’s mom in the hospital? why? what? i’m confused? also, mc’s grandparents are rich? what?

yeah. too many subplots in my opinion.

all in all it was an ok book, and it didn’t take a long time for me to read. i will continue to read kasie west, since my sister owns almost all of her books, so expect a few more of these to come.
