The Poet X
by Elizabeth Acevedo
An excellent audio book! I am so glad that I listened to the audio while reading the physical copy. It really made for a wonderful reading experience. The audio is read by the author, so I loved hearing the story as she intended. Plus, it was helpful for the Spanish words and phrases.
This book is a contemporary coming of age story written in verse. It was filled with emotion and dynamic relationships between family members. Xiomara is a twin, and she's struggling to find her voice until she joins her school's Poetry Club. She also deals with young love, and friendships in a way that is relatable for any teenager.
It was my first Elizabeth Acevedo book but it will not be last! Even though I don't love YA, I will make an exception for anything by this author.
I am also starting to enjoy novels in verse, especially when I have the audiobook to listen to.
I highly recommend this book!
